and be a collection of what you love.” – Nate Berkus

Background

Clients John and Susan Carlyle are looking to redecorate and redesign their home. They currently live within a historic district of Greensboro, North Carolina, where the own a traditional house that was built in the 1930’s. Mrs. Carlyle works as a high school art teacher, while Mr. Carlyle works as a Sales Manager. Mr. Carlyle’s job requires him to do a large amount of traveling, while being on call at all times. Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle are expecting their first child in the fall, and in addition they have to dogs named Ace and Apollo. The couple has lived in the house for 12 years, but has made minimal changes to the house. The couple plan on staying the house and have been researching designs based around the idea of “aging in place”. Thus, all the interior spaces need to be accessible for future use.

Scope/ Design Concept

As the designer I am looking to create a welcoming and entertaining atmosphere, that reflects the client’s personal taste by incorporating existing pieces, as well as meeting there living requirement needs.

Their personal design focuses on joining varies styles including Industrial, Scandinavian, and Eclectic. By combining existing art and furnishing I can then create a unique and personalized design for the Carlyle’s. Varies materials such as mixed metals, natural woods, and marble will be used in furniture and within surrounding rooms. Neutralized walls and flooring will be utilized to emphasize art pieces, as well as textiles and furnishing pieces. Hints of warmer colors, natural materials and plants will be used, to prevent spaces from feeling cold. This design appeals to those that appreciate varies types of art and social interaction. By incorporating the client’s personal art and traditional pieces within the design style, occupants will be able to identify with the overall space.
